1 killed, 15 injured after bus overturns on Malaysia's North South Expressway

BUTTERWORTH (Penang) — One person is dead and 15 others are injured after an express bus, carrying 29 people, skidded and crashed into a road divider at Km152 of the North-South Expressway (NSE), near the Bukit Tambun exit.

BUTTERWORTH (Penang) — One person is dead and 15 others are injured after an express bus, carrying 29 people, skidded and crashed into a road divider at Km152 of the North-South Expressway (NSE), near the Bukit Tambun exit.

The incident occurred at about 4am.

Of the 15 injured, four were reported to be in serious condition. All were sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

The identity of the deceased – a 29-year-old female – is not yet known.

Operations commander from the Sungai Bakap Fire and Rescue Department, Mr Mohd Rosmaidi Baharuddin, said when rescuers reached the scene, they found the bus overturned, with several passengers trapped inside.

"We extricated those who were pinned to their seats.

"Paramedics, who arrived later, confirmed that the woman was dead," he said.

The 29 onboard comprised the driver, co-driver and 27 passengers. NEW STRAITS TIMES
