talkback

I have been waiting all week for the relevant authorities to respond to this, and why have they not done so? Are they guilty or do they think that this issue will just go away with time?
Sunshine
hmmm.... actually, this experience also highlighted the value for us to pick up some basic knowledge to deal with emergencies on the spot.... can help prevent the situation fr turning more serious. Maybe we shd learn how to help ourselves instead of just relying on the govt.
Steven
There is no shortage of police personnel. All of them are very busy practising escort services to VVIPs of APEC meeting.

haha, there's a chinese saying, "shang4 liang2 bu4 zhen4, xia4 liang2 wai1". when the people on top are not strict and efficient, the people below also become laxed and nonchalant in attitude. isn't SPF under Home Affairs Ministry? poor coordination among the various government agencies is probably a result of shirking responsibility, as no one wants to be held responsible/answerable, while everyone just wants to earn his/her keep day by day without much care. but someone has to do something.... and fast!
Sunshine
this is shocking... there shd have been better coordination between the authorities. if LTA had trouble reaching the site... shd have feedback for backup assitance. thank fully no other veh suffer the same fate as those at site took effective action. Kudos to them!

I find this impossible to believe. 73 minutes is too long (unless the samaritans' 999 call was directed to the LTA's Joo Koon office, and there were at least 3 accidents along the way, and it rained, and they were trying to avoid ERP)

Firstly, thank you to the writer & the good samaritans for their help.

Reading this article reminded me of an incident that happened in Tampines Blk 416-418 Carpark.

My nephew's car was badly vandalised few mths back. What I wanted to highlight was, when we spoke to the 2 police officers during the reporting session, one of them commented "This is a norm thing, there is nothing we can do". They even acknowledged that, that area is well known for vehicles vandlising. Hence we asked shouldn't the authority do something, or look into fixing a CCTV. And this time the answer was "You have to lodge a complain to your Town Council, this kind of matters have to be handled by the HDB, not us"

Such convenient answers have resulted in another car being vandalised at the same car park last mth. And I understand from the residents there, the police took >1.30 hour to come to the scene.

Such reponses is something I have never expected from the Singapore Police Force.
OMG
how can tis happen in singapore.

Kudos to the civic-minded writer and others who've stepped in and tried to eliminate the potential hazards. Personally, 73 mins for the authorities to respond to such an incident is a tad disconcerting, did the authorities realize the seriousness of this situation in the first place?
Ricky
Can we still depend on the police if there is any emergency? Are there shortage of policemen and where is the fast respond team?
