Every generation has its own idea of what is "in" or just plain fun to do. I'm sure that many elderly and wise (or young and rich) have no clue as to the real meaning of Christmas, yet the holiday decorations are already up all over Singapore and the malls are stocking up with their Christmas merchandise for us to consume. It's just another excuse to spend money and party. Halloween is just the same.
American/Celtic or western culture is not the only source of impressionable ideas in the world (don't tell me that there are no witches or superheroes in eastern culture or mythology as a simple google inquiry will show otherwise). Over time, generations will start new festivals, modify existing festivals, and cease celebrating some festivals due to the given that everything changes.

Many of the young and vain people at Clarke Quay and Orchard Road are the most disgusting in Singapore, so please stop thinking that they represent the youth in Singapore. They are shingz! They are superficial youths raised by superficial parents.

Anyway, I think the whole of Clarke Quay has a bad aura, not suitable for a spiritual person like me to go anymore. The guest lists of the clubs there cannot make it. There are too many superficial and uncivilized lians and ah bengs and stupid vain people. Over the weekend I spotted a fight at McDonald's. Then there was this lian waitress at one of the food eateries who was trying to entice customers when I was walking by with her "hello, welcome!". I just smiled at her from a distance to show I was not interested in a polite way, then you know what she said? She muttered that I smiled like her boyfriend or something. She thought I was treating her like a prostitute and felt insulted. I don't know whether it was directed at me then but I later thought so later on. So cheap skate low class lian behavior, she obviously doesn't know the meaning of a good smile like the SIA girl's or a server in a hotel. I was showing some politeness, otherwise I wouldn't bother looking at her ugly face.
