Gary is already the fore-runner of the typical Singaporean in 10 or 20 years' time.

Who cares what non-Singaporean think about Singapore? I care about what we Singaporeans think about Singapore. As a Singaporean myself, I think about the wet market that are disappearing, I think about the Singlish, I think about the dialects that are already disappearing, I think about the national library and national theatre at Fort Canning that are gone. In another 10 years, I don't think this Singaporean know what Singapore is any more.

Talking about dialect, someone in the authority commented "It would be stupid for any Singapore agency or NTU to advocate the learning of dialects, which must be at the expense of English and Mandarin."

I just wonder is he a linguist to pass such remark. Has the standard of English and Chinese in Singapore improved since the speak Mandarin campaign launched in 1979.
