I suppose we can empathize with the writer because he is urbane, widely traveled(read his exploits in the Plus column), a go-getter, young etc. Ours is an essentially fast-paced urban society with an aging population, that is growing very quickly. We are in the process of building more ramps and other ancillary facilities for the wheelchair bound, and others with physical handicaps. In the meantime, senior citizens, in particular those who find difficulty in getting around, would appreciate it more if the energetic or impatient young
citizens not talk so eloquently about spatial awareness, or brush past them in their great hurry to be on time for their (tongue-in-cheek) do-or-die engagements.

I could empathise with the writer. It's ok to stroll down the walkway but, please, be mindful of your surrounding. Having said that, I'm also forgiving to those senior citizens who block my way. Due to their age, they are less sensitive in their senses and their response.

I meant to say I try to make a conscious effort to walk slower.
