SINGAPORE — It’s already done wonders twice and the arts community is looking to go for a third.

A town hall meeting to look for the next Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) to represent the arts community — including the creative and media sectors such as film and television — has been scheduled for May 10 (Saturday), 2.30pm, at 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road. The current batch of NMPs will end their term in August.

The past two meeting to choose the so-called Arts NMPs were successful and both representatives have proven to be exceptional after stepping up to the plate: Former Substation co-Artistic Director Audrey Wong being the more quiet, behind-the-scenes type who had championed freelancers in the industry, and current NMP, theatre and TV actor Janice Koh, who really, really took it up a notch with her speeches, enthusiastic consultations with the various arts sector and active use of social media.

Like in the two previous town hall meetings, potential candidates will be there to explain their gameplan and signatures will be collected (the campaign will also be accessible online). And like the previous meets, the chosen candidate’s name will be presented — as a recommendation — to Prof Chan Heng Chee, the National Arts Council Chairman and the appointed representative for the Arts, Media and Sports Functional Group.

Who would you like to see as the next Arts NMP and why?
