Sarah Choo wins ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu 2013

SINGAPORE — Congratulations to Sarah Choo, who is this year’s ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu winner.
The 23-year-old photographer/painter (who also has a painting installation show currently up at Galerie Sogan & Art) was judged tops by the jury and also received the S$30,000 prize.
Architectural/landscape photographer Darren Soh and Beijing-based documentary photographer Sim Chi Yin both received the Discernment Award (which comes with S$8,000). Sim also also bagged the Eternal Discovery Award (aka People’s Choice Award) and an additional S$1,000.
The judging was done based on submitted portfolios and not the videos that are up at Chan Hampe Gallery until Sept 15 and the ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu website.
The jury members this year were: Objectifs’ Emmeline Yong, LASALLE College Of The Arts’ Venka Purushothaman, jury president and photography curator Agnes de Gouvion Saint-Cyr, Magnum photographer Gueorgui Pinkhassov and Pernod Ricard Singapore marketing director Charmaine Leung.
This year’s nominees included: Alecia Neo, Dawn Ng, Liana Yang, Ore Huiying and Tan Ngiap Heng.
