Broadway Beng Sebastian Tan reviews the Glambert's gig!

Hey you guys! It’s Flick Chick here with a tasty treat. As much as I enjoyed following last year’s American Idol as fervently as the next person and loving runner-up Adam Lambert’s eyeliner, platform shoes and sigh…sequins, glitter and rhinestones! oh my!… I knew that a review of his recent invite-only showcase at the Universal Studios Singapore Pantages Hollywood theatre would come much better received from my good friend Broadway Beng Sebastian Tan. After all, it’s best if you get the lowdown from one Queen ( erm… that was Seb’s drag role in Wild Rice’s 2008 X’mas pantomine Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) on another (All hail Adam Glambert, the Show Queen! And lucky for me, Seb was a huge huge fan and decided to show his eternal appreciation to me (and the lovely people at SONY MUSIC SINGAPORE who gave me the tickets) by writing what you see below. Enjoy! XOXO G Herrrrreeeee’s  Broadway Beng Sebastian Tan!  So 3 people told me at last Friday’s Adam Lambert showcase that their friends have repeatedly said that the American Idol finalist reminded them of me, Sebastian Tan a.k.a Broadway Beng. This, to me is a huge compliment as I’m a huge fan of Adam! There are, if I can be so presumptuous to say, a few similarities: 1) We are both high tenors (aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!) who can and will hit the high notes 2) We are both theatrical performers who love the glitz and the glam, the shing and the bling with our sequins and the feathers (more!more!) 3) And we both have a good sense of humour which we bring to our shows (or at least that’s what I’d like to think :)

So, did I get to see all the above said similarities at the Adam Lambert showcase? The answer is one out of three. Yes, we, to our screaming delight, all got hear that signature high power-pack voice that is Adam; singing 5 songs from his debut album. My favourites had to be the encore Down the Rabbit Hole and Whataya Want from Me plus 1 song from his American Idol glory days Mad World. I do wish that more of his songs from his album were as good as Mad World… but hey, it’s just his first album right? Did we get to see the glitz, shing and the bling with the sequins and the feathers? Unfortunately no, because Adam did an acoustic version of all his songs with just his talented guitarist and drummer, sitting on a high stool. The good thing is we got to hear more of his wonderful voice unmarred by big rock band sounds, which ironically would be the very thing to bring his fans to their feet. And that, to me, is the signature Adam Lambert showmanship! Alas, it was meant to be just a simple showcase with a humble set-up and we all saw a somewhat subdued Adam, minus all his onstage antics.

Me included!) he will spare no expense in bringing on all the glitz, shing and  bling with  sequins and the feathers. Plus, a big rock band at a bigger venue! And his great sense of humour! (I hope J ) So, Adam, you ask, "Whataya Want from Me"?  Well, I want you to just keep to your promise! And I just can’t wait. Seb
