The Force is strong in Singapore

SINGAPORE — Star Wars fans in Singapore will have much to be excited about this Saturday as toy company Hasbro is holding an official Star Wars Day celebration on May 4.

Fans who have celebrated Star Wars Day in other forms for the past few years might be already in the know, but for those of us who don’t: Star Wars Day is held annually on May 4 because of a play on the phrase first spoken by General Dodonna in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The phrase: “May the Force be with you”, sounds almost like “May the fourth be with you”, hence the celebration of Star Wars Day on May 4. The famed phrase was later used by Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in the other sequels and by various characters in the infamous prequels.

Puns aside, May 4 has become a day for celebration for Star Wars Fans, and Hasbro will be having the appearence of some of the most beloved Star Wars characters on the streets of Orchard Road from 2 to 6pm. Fans who partake in the celebrations also have a chance to pick up a special Star Wars Kenner Vintage Series Boba Fett worth S$19.90.

Fans are also encouraged to come dressed up or even bring their own lightsabers to take part in the festivities.

Star Wars Day is not to be confused with Life Day, a day of celebration for Wookies featured on the panned Star Wars Holiday Special aired way back in 1978, which also featured the first appearance of Boba Fett.
