“I had a lump in my breast,” she said in a telephone interview. “It had been there for some time, and I had been doing yearly ultrasound check-ups and noticed the lump then. It was formed by fatty tissues - doctors have many terms for it but it’s generally called a cyst. No, it’s not a tumour.”

“It felt uncomfortable and to reduce my fears and as a precaution, I decided to remove the lump.

“It’s very common among ladies to have this sort of thing,” she said.

The actress she opted to have the operation last month, just around the time of the Star Awards Show 1, which was why she missed that show, but she felt well enough to attend Show 2.

Still, Pan Ling Ling said she has heeded her doctor’s advice to not take on too much work during this period.

“My doctor said I’d better take a rest to fully recover,” she said, adding that she will be on medical leave for about two to three months, “depending on the situation”.
