SINGAPORE — Twitter, the popular social media service, is celebrating its 8th birthday today (March 21) with the reveal of a way to discover your first tweet.

The new site, at http://discover.twitter.com/first-tweet, can help you discover your — or anybody’s — first tweet just by entering the user name in the text field provided.

For example, @TODAYonline’s first tweet was “Hello, everyone! Follow us @TODAYonline to get the latest local and international news, commentaries, reviews and letters”.

Top local blogger Mr Brown’s first tweet was “DOTA rules”, and Channel NewsAsia’s first tweet was “MAS introduces new guidelines to grow Islamic finance market http://tinyurl.com/cn4rhc”.

Twitter also announced yesterday that MediaCorp is also the only local brand with two positions in the list of accounts most followed by Singaporeans, with @ChannelNewsAsia coming in second, and @TODAYonline coming in sixth.

Twitter also revealed the top eight retweeted tweets on @TODAYonline, with the tsunami warning tweeted on April 11, 2012 being the most retweeted ever, garning 2,632 retweets. Following that was a tweet on March 9, 2014, about the families of the missing Malaysia Airlines plane with 2,116 retweets. Three tweets about the riot in Little India last year were in the top eight, and a tweet about Hershey’s new Nutella-like chocolate spread came in at No 7 with 1,374 retweets.
