Just in the month of May this year, there are more than 10 activities over the four weekends, across the island, to keep any active Singaporean busy. That said, every sporty individual will agree with the benefits of changing up their workout environment every once and a while to refresh the mind and body. What many are looking for are destination with a good mix of urban activities and natural landscapes with a community that are enthusiastic and sporty as well. For those of you who’re looking for just that, South Australia is definitely up your alley. Not only is sport a nationwide fixation in the Land Down Under,
Kangaroo Island Marathon On the other end of the scale, the City-Bay Fun Run (18 September 2016) sees more than 26,000 people descend on Adelaide. The buzzing fun run is over 40 years old and a favourite with residents and visitors alike. It’s a thrilling day out and designed for anyone who’s keen to work out alongside thousands of other like-minded people. Starting in Adelaide and concluding in Glenelg, participants can choose from 3, 6 or 12km routes, with both walking and running encouraged.
City-Bay Fun Run The City-Bay Fun Run is so popular that March 2015 saw the first Bay-CityFun Run come to life. Commencing at Glenelg and finishing in Adelaide, the choices are 4.5 or 12 kilometres. The next event is scheduled for March 2017, so keep your eyes out for dates.
Bay-City Fun Run Cycling is another prized Australian pursuit and South Australians hold claim to the biggest cycling race in the Southern Hemisphere! Launched in 1999, the Santos Tour Down Under (January 2017, dates to be confirmed) gets better each year, so if you’re planning on being around in January, it’s well worth contemplating. The festive atmosphere is something everyone raves about with communities beyond Adelaide – like the Barossa, Adelaide Hills and Southern Vales – organizing street parades to coincide with the event and the celebratory vibe is electrifying. The 781.3km route certainly doesn’t seem so lengthy when you are greeted with merriment as you cycle through beautiful South Australia. But if this seems a little daunting to you, there are also shorter routes available with the Bupa Challenge Tour that allow more recreational cyclists to experience a
Santos Tour Down Under Besides the main events mentioned above, you can also incorporate an adventure activity into your holiday itinerary at any time. Perhaps you might want to try… - Sand boarding in Coffin Bay National Park. Picture flying down the sand with limestone cliffs as your backdrop. - Surfing South Australia’s rugged coast. There are seven major surfing areas to choose from that cater to novices and pros alike. - Forward abseiling is something a little bit different. Imagine running down a rock face headfirst. Victor Harbor is one of the best places in Australia to try this rather unusual activity. - You can’t travel to Australia and not venture off on a bushwalk. It’s a great way to get close to nature while working on your fitness. Whether it’s a short hike or multi-day trek, there are plenty of options in South Australia.
