SINGAPORE — The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) has signed a US$20million (S$26.5 million) agreement with American company GE Healthcare to develop research that will aim towards faster and more accurate diagnosis of diseases.
The agreement, signed this morning (Dec 8), will be over five years and in three research areas — patient monitoring, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Patient monitoring in particular is expected to increase with more internet connectivity, an ageing population and Singapore’s drive towards a Smart Nation.
According to A*STAR, medical technologies is a high growth sector, with manufacturing output growing from S$3.3 billion to S$5.1billion from 2009 to last year.
