SINGAPORE — Trade associations and chambers will soon be housed under one roof with the setting up of a hub at the former Jurong Town Hall, Minister of State for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck said today (March9).

This is aimed at supporting the development of these organisations, so that they can in turn help the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with restructuring.

Mr Teo said the new Trade Association Hub can facilitate greater collaboration among the organisations and companies across different industries in areas such as skills upgrading and business co-creation.

“Secondly, smaller trade associations and chambers will be able to leverage on large (counterparts) which can provide expertise in secretariat support and organisation needs. Thirdly, trade associations and chambers can also reduce operating costs and optimise resources through the sharing of facilities and amenities,” Mr Teo said during the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Committee of Supply debate. “Ultimately… members (of trade associations and chambers) will benefit from the broader range of programmes which will be made available to them.”
