SINGAPORE — NTUC Income motor policyholders can now file accident reports through a new mobile application — saving them the hassle of going to the office to lodge one.

Launching the Accident Reporting by Income app yesterday, the company said it is the first of its kind in Singapore and will make it easier for motorists .

Drivers who get into an accident must make a report within 24 hours, whether through the app or in person.

If they fail to do so, they risk having their No Claims Discount (NCD) withdrawn when they renew their motor insurance.

An NCD entitles motorists to a lower car insurance premium, up to a maximum of 50 per cent off, if they have not made claims on their policy during the current period of insurance.

“Increasingly, customers are embarking on mobile-first lifestyles and consumer journeys,” said Mr Pui Phusangmook, NTUC Income’s general manager for General Insurance and Group Business.

“It is thus important for (NTUC) Income to stay relevant to our customers and to stay ahead as Singapore’s leading digital insurer.”

The app also makes it easier for motorists to connect with NTUC Income’s 24-hour accident response team, Orange Force, which operates seven days a week.

Drivers in need of assistance on the road or who are involved in an accident can contact the emergency response team at NTUC Income with just the click of a button via the app.

NTUC Income said the new digital initiative is not intended to replace its existing systems.

Instead, it offers another option to motorists and adds to the company’s range of motor insurance offerings.

Other existing customer touch-points include the Orange Force emergency service and the NTUC Income Motor Service Centre, which serves as an accident reporting and damage assessment centre.

The app is designed by Thailand-based Claim Di, which was one of the nine start-ups from NTUC Income’s insurtech accelerator programme called Income Future Starter.

The start-up’s proprietary mobile app has been used in Thailand to facilitate communication and motor insurance claims processing between drivers and their insurance companies.

“While we have experienced considerable success with a similar app in Thailand, we aim to scale our innovation and bring the convenience of accident reporting to more motorists here,” said Mr Kittinan Anuphan, CEO of Claim Di.

In cases in which motorists or passengers sustain injuries, however, accident reporting via the app is not eligible.

Instead, a police report is required and such accidents must be reported in person at NTUC Income’s appointed accident reporting centres.
