SINGAPORE – Samsung Galaxy Note7 customers in Singapore can get a full refund or exchange for another device with a refund on price difference.

Samsung Singapore’s announcement on Wednesday (Oct 12) followed the parent company’s decision just a day earlier to permanently shut down production of the ill-fated smartphones.

“The company is in close discussions with its telecommunication operator and retail partners, and details on how Galaxy Note7 customers can go about the exchange or refund will be provided soon.  All Galaxy Note7 customers are urged to take up the options when these are made available to them,” the spokesperson said.

The South Korean firm is also looking into remedies for Galaxy Note7 customers who purchased the Samsung Concierge service. Samsung Concierge offers customers a range of benefits, including allowing them to upgrade to a new Galaxy device every year without having to wait until their two-year contracts with telcos are due.

Consumers can call 1800-SAMSUNG (7267864) for further assistance.

In the meantime, Note7 customers who require a device on loan can visit the Samsung Customer Service Centre at Westgate mall.

On whether the Note7 issue will affect the Galaxy S7 devices, a Samsung spokesperson told TODAY: “Because each model has a unique design and manufacturing process, we can confirm that the issues with the Galaxy Note7 are isolated only to this product.”
The three telcos — Singtel, StarHub and M1 — said they are in discussions with Samsung to work out the logistics for the refunds and exchanges.

“We are working with Samsung and we will communicate details on the remedies to our Galaxy Note7 customers soon,” a StarHub spokesman said. Meanwhile, Singtel said it will provide updates to affected customers via Facebook and www.singtel.com/galaxynote7.
