SINGAPORE — Singapore has delivered the first phase of the master plan for Andhra Pradesh’s new capital city to the Indian state’s government, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced today (March 30).

The first phase of the project includes a regional socio-economic analysis and demographic study, as well as a set of strategies to develop better connectivity while protecting agricultural zones and heritage areas.

The plan will help the state government identify the appropriate long-term economic positioning of the existing towns and cities within the capital region around Vijayawada-Guntur, after its former capital Hyderabad was part of the area carved to form India’s 29th state Telengana.

“Singapore is pleased to complete and handover to the Andhra Pradesh government the Capital Region Plan on schedule,” said second minister for trade and industry S Iswaran.

The two master planners of the project, Surbana International Consultants and Jurong Consultants, are expected to complete the remaining two phases by end-June.
