HONG KONG — A newly-built underground car park has partially collapsed in eastern China after heavy rain, according to Chinese media reports.
Part of the building in Jingdezhen in Jiangxi province came down after the downpour caused a mudslide on top of the car park, the news website Thepaper.cn reported.
The rest of the building is in danger of collapsing, posing a danger to nearby homes, the report said.
The car park was built for a new residential complex in the area.
The mudslide happened at about 10pm on Tuesday (March 21) when residents heard a sound like an “explosion”, the article said.
One of the main supporting columns in the car park broke, while another two have been damaged.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The local authorities were quoted as saying that the car park would be repaired and its safe use guaranteed.
One social media user said the car park was typical of shoddy building standards in China.
