Supermoon lights up the sky

A supermoon occurs when the moon is closest to the Earth in its orbit, making it appear much larger and brighter than usual. Last night’s (Sept 8) supermoon was also this year’s Harvest Moon — a full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, which falls on Sept 23 this year. This is the third supermoon of the year, with the first in July and the second in August. Last month’s supermoon was the biggest of the year.
