SINGAPORE — Like many of her peers, 12-year-old Kellyn Tan has big dreams of becoming a star.

Unlike many 12-year-olds though, she is already on her way to achieving them. The Coral Secondary School student has just become Timbre Group’s first artiste, as well as official ambassador of the Timbre Music Academy (TMA). Today, Tan will be releasing her first EP, The Limitless Future.

“There is no age limitation when it comes to talent,” said Danny Loong, chief creative director of Timbre Group, who added that the company decided to sign Tan on after seeing her perform at a talent showcase. The budding singer said it wasn’t a difficult decision to go pro at such a young age.

“This is an experience for me and also a challenge,” Tan said. “At some points, it can be really difficult — I struggled with my school work and music when I got into secondary school.”

She continued: “I really worried about my schoolwork as I was scared I couldn’t catch up. But luckily, I had friends who helped me with my studies, while my vocal instructor coached me in my singing.”

Tan, whose favourite singer is Taylor Swift, said she hopes to be as successful as Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun. She is currently undergoing music mentorship and learning how to play the keyboards at the TMA. The company said it hopes to eventually introduce her to Taiwan and China’s music scenes.

“At 12, Kellyn still has many more years ahead to develop her talent and achieve her fullest potential, and we believe she can be a positive influence on and an inspiration to other youths in pursuing their dreams,” said Loong. Hon Jing Yi
