SINGAPORE — Great news for Mandopop lovers: MediaCorp radio station Y.E.S. 93.3FM has secured the rights to host the 15th Global Chinese Music Awards (GCMA) in Singapore next year.

Y.E.S. 93.3FM’s assistant programme director, Cruz Teng, who will chair the executive committee for the music awards said: “2015 is a momentous year as we celebrate our country’s 50th birthday and the station’s 25th anniversary. We’ve made remarkable progress in virtually all sectors, and the music industry has evolved as well — from fledgling songwriters to bona fide superstars conquering the regional market. We think it’s an appropriate time to celebrate Mandopop right here in the Lion City. And we are glad that the GCMA council unanimously chose Singapore to be the host country next year.”

The prestigious regional music awards show is organised by Singapore’s Y.E.S. 93.3FM, Radio Beijing, Radio Guangdong, Radio Television Hong Kong, Shanghai’s Pop 101, Taiwan’s Pop Radio and Malaysia’s 988FM. It is held in a different city each year with Singapore hosting the event in 2006 and 2012.Hon Jing Yi
