CLOUD MESSENGER. Based on a Sanskrit poem by Kalidasa, The Necessary Stage brings their interpretation of the story of an exiled spirit sending a message to his wife through a cloud. In collaboration with artistes Bani Haykal, Brian Gothon Tan and the design collectiove, Neon Tights, this is a multilingual, interdisciplinary piece. THE MUSIC MARKET 2014 #BTMM. The Bandwagon Music Market returns for the second year, with a flea-market, vinyl shopping and food available while you listen to live local music and art. Aug 2, 4pm to 12am, Hard Rock Cafe (Orchard). Tickets at S$15 from Peatix.

REFLECTIONS IN NANYANG. 105 alumni and friends of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) from Singapore and beyond have come together for a joint exhibition in oil, acrylic, watercolour, Chinese ink, mixed media, print, metal relief and ceramic, to celebrate Club NAFA’s 10th anniversary. CAVALIA. This multi-media equestrian show, the creation of Circque du Soleil co-founder Normand Latourelle, makes its Asian debut in Singapore with its troop of equine and human performers.Aug 12 to 30, various times, 2 Bayfront Avenue. FIRST TAKE. A screening of new local short films and is followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. A platform for new filmmakers and anyone who is interested in filmmaking to meet, exchange ideas and show their work. Aug 4, 8pm, LASALLE College of the Arts. Free admission.

STEVE-O THE GUILTY AS CHARGED TOUR. Steve-O of MTV’s Jackass fame, performs for one night only, sharing his experiences from the show and his personal life. Aug 10, 7pm, University Cultural Centre Hall, NUS. Tickets at S$78 to S$138 from SISTIC.

THE BOYS IN THE BAND BY MART CROWLEY. The show premieres in Singapore with an all-male, multi-national cast performing the seminal hit which sparked the gay rights movement in America, starring Chris Bucko, Marc Checkley, Nelson Clemente, Tim Garner, Rob Jenkin, Rob Schilling, Andrew Sutherland, and Frédéric Soumaré and is directed by Tony Knight. ZAI KUNING: WE ARE HOME AND EVERYWHERE. A Singaporean artist and performer, Zai presents his newest solo show, and features installations and individual art pieces. Till Aug 10, 11am to 6pm, #02-13 Gillman Barracks, 7 Lock Road. Free admission.

PORTALS. Singaporean artist Teng Yen Lim makes use of illusionary, trick of the eye techniques in this installation. Till Aug 31, Bishan Public Library and Central Public Library. Free admission.

BOOKCURSION. A ensemble of 7 percussionists use various parts of books found in the library, for a creative drumming session. Aug 2, 2pm to 3.30pm, Toa Payoh Public Library. Free admission.

HANSEL & GRETEL: AN ECO ADVENTURE. Based on the well-known fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, this is Glowsticks’ first musical for children aged 3 to 8 years old, following their earlier staging of the play in March this year. Aug 2, 11am, 2pm & 3.30pm, Aliwal Arts Centre, Multi-Purpose Hall. Tickets at S$19 from SISTIC.

RETROSPECTIVE BY XAVIER LE ROY. Singaporean dance makers Aaron Khek, Bernice Lee, Chan Sze Wei, Jereh Leong, Joavien Ng, Kai Eng, Loo Zihan, Max Chen, Melinda Lee, Mohd Fared Jainal, Norisham Osman, Scarlet Yu and Wiing Liu will be performing their own renditions of Le Roy’s solos, in this exhibition of personal stories told through dance. INNAMORATI THE MUSICAL. A story inspired by young singers and their ventures into the music industry, Toy Factory Productions presents an original Mandarin musical featuring hits composed by Eric Moo, with new arrangements by his brother, Allan Moo.
