DIM SUM DOLLIES — THE HISTORY OF SINGAPORE PART 2. The iconic Dim Sum Dollies’ sequel to their hit show takes stock as Singapore nears its 50th anniversary. CONTEMPORARY MODERN: THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MODERN ART SOCIETY SINGAPORE. The seminal art group holds a semi-retrospective featuring 50 works from members as well as 10 pieces from guest foreign participants. Until Dec 14, 10am to 10pm, ION Art Gallery, ION Orchard. Free admission.

M1 CONTACT 2014. The annual contemporary dance festival organised by THE Dance Company features seven productions, a forum, a host of classes and workshops and 90 performers from Singapore and overseas. EUGENE SOH: RENAISSANCE CITY. The Singaporean artist takes on iconic works of art and give them a contemporary Singaporean twist. These include Georges Seurat’s Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte. Dec 11 to Jan 4, 11am to 7pm, Chan Hampe Galleries, Raffles Hotel Arcade, #01-21. Free admission.

EXPLORING ART. Facilitated by artist Felicia Low, the exhibition showcases the works of the Y-Stars, a group of teenagers and young adults with Down’s Syndrome and other intellectual challenges. Dec 11 to 19, noon to 9pm, The Substation Gallery. Free admission.

GENEVIEVE CHUA: PARABOLA. This ongoing exhibition by the Singaporean artist is the second part of her Unnatural History Drawings series and draws from the subject of the pelvic bone as the premise of evolution. JASON WEE: REQUIEM (THE SEA CAN’T REACH YOU NOW). The latest exhibition by the Singaporean artist features sculptural works that look at notions of grief and morning. Until Jan 10 at Michael Janssen Singapore, Gillman Barracks, 9 Lock Road, #02-21. Free admission.

ART OF GIVING. An exhibition of works by LASALLE College of the Arts students, who pay tribute to the county’s iconic heritage motifs in creating gifts and objects. UNBOUND. A group exhibition featuring the realistic paintings of Chung Shek, the figurative bronze sculptures of Paige Bradley and the abstract works of Kaz Orii. Until Jan 10, 11.30am to 6.30pm, Mulan Gallery, 36 Armenian Street, #01-07. Free admission.

BARRY FREEDLAND: DANCING DRONES. This exhibition by the American robotics artist features a trio of robots programmed to interact with viewers. The life-sized performers, comprising digital facsimiles of the artist’s body, 3D-printed components and electronics, will roam the gallery, waiting for audiences. Until Dec 12 at Sundaram Tagore Gallery, Gillman Barracks. Free admission.

JOGJA AGRO POP. A group show featuring 13 young artists from Yogyakarta: Anagard, Farid Stevy Asta, Decki ‘Leos’ Firmansah, Arwin Hidayat, Love Hate Love, Methodos, Riono Tanggul Nusantara, Wedhar Riyadi, Uji “Hahan” Handoko Eko Saputro, Farhan Siki, A.C. ORE HUIYING: WE ARE FARMERS. The documentary photographer looks at the history of farming in Singapore—by documenting her family’s farming practice. Aside from the exhibition, a greenhouse installation will be set up on the rooftop. Dec 10 to 23, 11am to 7pm, Objectifs Gallery, 56A Arab Street. Free admission.

DIVERSECITY 2014. The Singapore International Foundation’s biennial arts and culture showcase returns to celebrate the role of Singaporean artists as cultural ambassadors. Featured are 187 collaborative art projects by 127 artists. Dec 10 to Feb 28 at the National Museum of Singapore, Stamford Gallery, Level 1. Free admission.

YANG FUDONG: INCIDENTAL SCRIPTS. It’s the first major solo exhibition in the region for the leading Chinese contemporary artist. Featured are four works that characterise his approach. Dec 12 to March 1, noon to 7pm, Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, Gillman Barracks, Block 43, Malan Road. Free admission.

VERVE — AN ARTS FESTIVAL. Presented by the students of Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Diploma in Arts Business Management, it’s a whole-day affair comprising 23 programmes including, among others, a music showcase, dance workshops and, a festival bazaar and a community art project. DON QUIXOTE. Singapore Dance Theatre’s year-end production based on the classic Miguel de Cervantes novel. First done by the Bolshoi Ballet in the 1800s it is the first classical ballet in seven years that SDT has added to its repertoire. Until Dec 7, 8pm, Esplanade Theatre. With 1pm weekend matinees. 2014 UOB PAINTING OF THE YEAR EXHIBITION. A showcase of the winning works at this year’s edition, including Singapore’s winner Om Mee Ai’s N-PIN56L and the overall regional winner Antonius Subiyanto’s Old Stock Fresh Menu. PARADISE. Teater Ekamatra’s year-end show takes place in the city of Kesamet, where life’s problems have seemingly been solved. We meet Dan, who works in a factory, who tells his friend Talulah he is ready to die. Written by Zizi Azah, it’s directed by Rizman Putra and stars Becca D’Bus, Crispian Chan, Jean Toh, Ang Hui Bin and Maimunah Bagharib. Until Dec 7, 8pm, Drama Centre Black Box. VIJAI NATHAN: GOOD GIRLS DON’T. BUT INDIAN GIRLS DO. Russell Peter’s favourite comic performs in Singapore for the first time and it’s her one-woman comedy about Indian-American identity. Until Dec 6, 8.30pm, Tanglin Club Theatrette. Tickets at S$58 and S$68 from SISTIC.

LIKE ME. I LIKE. The ETCeteras’ latest production sees Member of Parliament Baey Yam Keng in his first acting role. Written and directed by Lim Hai Yen, this charity play highlights our obsession with social media and how it impacts the day-to-day interaction of people. Until Dec 7, 8pm, SOTA Studio Theatre. INTERSECTIONS: A CROSS-CULTURAL EXHIBITION. A group show featuring selected South-east Asian contemporary artists and five Cuban artists, namely Yoan Capote, Ivan Capote, Douglas Arguelles, Adonis Flores, and Maykel Linares, constitute the Cuban dialogue of the exhibition. BEGIN…BEGUN — THE ART OF ALAN CHAN. An exhibition by one of Asia’s leading designers, here he brings back rich images inspired by the 5,000-year history of China into the modern world. Until Jan 11, 2015, Mizuma Gallery, Gillman Barracks, 22 Lock Road, #01-34. Free admission.

MONKEY GOES WEST. Written by Alfian Sa’at, W!ld Rice’s year-end pantomime riffs off the classic Chinese novel Journey To The West, but instead of a monk, it’s a schoolboy who journeys — from Haw Par Villa to Jurong West. Directed by Sebastian Tan, it stars Chua Enlai, Siti Khalijah Zainal, Sugie Phua and more. Until Dec 13, 7.30pm and 2.30pm, Victoria Theatre. Tickets from S$45 to S$80 at SISTIC.

MAMMA MIA! This well-loved fun musical about a mother, a daughter and three possible dads — all done to the music of ABBA — is in town. Until Dec 14 at Grand Theatre, MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. Tickets from SISTIC.

PETER PAN, THE NEVER ENDING STORY. The classic JM Barrie tale comes to life in this theatrical spectacular that has highflying action, thrilling swordplay and pop songs from the likes of Robbie Williams and Westlife, which have been given a makeover by musical director Matt Dunkley. AWAKEN THE DRAGON EXHIBITION. An exhibition in conjunction with the Awaken The Dragon Festival 2014 at Jalan Bahar featuring contemporary ceramic works by Singaporean and international artists. Until Dec 13 at Art-2 Gallery, Old Hill Street Police Station. Free admission.

INSIDE CANNES. A photography exhibition by Clotilde Richalet about the world’s most famous film festival, which is part of the 4th Rendezvous With French Cinema event. APB FOUNDATION SIGNATURE ART PRIZE 2014. Exhibition of the 15 finalist artworks for the triennial competition, including Singapore’s own Ho Tzu Nyen and Robert Zhao Renhui. Until March 15 at the Singapore Art Museum.

DA VINCI: SHAPING THE FUTURE. An exhibition of original works from Leonardo da Vince, the show comprises 26 pages from his largest notebook, the Codex Atlanticus, which collects his most important drawings and writings. Until May 2015 at ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands.

I LEARNED MY HISTORY FROM THE TV. A painting exhibition by Singaporean artist Samuel Chen that draws inspiration from a popular Chinese period drama series and is linked to his own status as overseas Chinese. Until Jan 17 at Grey Projects, 6B Kim Tian Road, Tiong Bahru. Free admission. The gallery is closed from Dec 7 to Jan 6.

BOUNDLESS SEAS: BADA. A group show comprising contemporary ceramics and sculptures by five Korean artists, including well-known ceramist Lee Hun-chung. Until Dec 21 at Space Cottonseed, Gillman Barracks, 47 Malan Road, #01-24. Free admission.

2HIDE. A solo show by Filipino artist Jose Santos III featuring nine large photorealist paintings and three mixed media installation. Until Jan 8 at Pearl Lam Galleries, Gillman Barracks, 9 Lock Road, #03-22. Free admission.

MODERN LOVE. A group show celebrating LASALLE College of the Arts’ 30th anniversary, featuring 30 artist-graduates, including Ahmad Abu Bakar, Lina Adam, Choy Ka Fai, Amanda Heng, Jeremy Hiah, Zai Kuning, Jane Lee, Lee Wen, Vincent Leow, Justin Lim, Zulkifle Mahmod, Donna Ong, PHUNK, Rizman Putra, Jeremy Sharma, Suzann Victor, among others. SINGAPURA: 700 YEARS. A journey through Singapore’s history from the 14th century onwards. This immersive exhibition comprises six sections: Archaeology in Singapore, Ancient Singapore (1300–1818), Colonial Singapore (1819–1942), Syonan-To (1942–1945), Road to Merdeka (1946–1965) and Independent Singapore (1965–1975). Until Aug 10, 2015 at Exhibition Galleries 1 and 2, Basement, National Museum of Singapore.

JUNIOR CLAUS. Singapore Repertory Theatre’s new children’s production about Junior Claus, the rebellious heir to the immense empire in the North Pole who runs away and leaves the workshop to the greedy elf Grumpo. BUDI DAYA. A special exhibition featuring 19 artists and 57 artefacts, including 18 new commissions that explore notions of “culture” from a Malay perspective. Includes paintings, sculptures, installations, embroidery, performance, architecture and video art. Until March 29, 2015, 10am to 6pm, Malay Heritage Centre. Closed on Mondays.
