NOISE SINGAPORE 2014 MUSIC MENTORSHIP CONCERT. Catch some of the freshest young musical acts, who have been mentored by Singapore’s best talents, over this weekend in a slew of free concert performances. Until Sept 14, various evening timings, Esplanade Outdoor Theatre and Concourse.

HOLIDAY IN MY HEAD. New Singaporean company Asylum Theatre makes its debut with this eight-in-one production of plays written and directed by Dean Lundquist, all of which centre on or mention Christmas. THE NIGHTINGALE. Singapore Repertory Theatre’s The Little Company presents a new take on Hans Christian Andersen’s well-loved fairy tale. Directed by Kate Golledge. KACIP MAS DULANG PERMATA 5 - DEMI MASA, WEAVING IN TIME. The fifth instalment of one of three annual events by Era Dance Theatre. Sept 13, 3pm and 8pm, University Cultural Centre Theatre, NUS. Tickets at S$25 from SISTIC.

RONNY CHIENG — CHIENG REACTION. The popular Malaysian-born, Singapore-raised comedian hits Singapore fir the first time with his new stand-up routine, which one the Directors’ Choice Award at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Best Local Show award at the Sydney Comedy Festival. …THE SILENT LINES OF ITS LIPS. Collective Mayhem and The Arts house presents this multi-disciplinary performance based on the idea of de-generation and regeneration. The collaboration includes choreographer Susan Yeung, actor Harris Jahim, film artist Russell Morton and musician Claudio Di Meo, with original text developed by dramaturg Caleb Lee. ENDLESS, NAMELESS (CONSTRUCTIONS). Japanese artist Teppei Kaneuji presents 80 new artworks based on the local landscape after a six-week residency here. Sept 20 to Oct 25 at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Robertson Quay. Free admission.

SEPTFEST 2014. The Substation is celebrating its 24th anniversary primarily with a fundraising exhibition for its art gallery. Over 40 works have been donated by artists and the art centre hopes to raise S$30,000. Until Sept 27, noon to 9pm, The Substation Gallery. Silent auctions will be held on Sept 13 and Sept 27.

NADAV KANDER: 49 WORKS. A month-long show featuring a selection of portraits and landscapes from the acclaimed London-based Israeli photographer. Until Oct 4, 11am to 7pm, Galleries 1 & 2, NAFA Campus 1, 80 Bencoolen Street. Free admission. Closed on Mondays.

AFFORDABLE ART FAIR SINGAPORE’S YOUNG TALENT PROGRAMME 2013/14 WINNERS EXHIBITION. Affordable Art Fair Singapore and ION Art Gallery team up to showcase the winners of last year’s Young Talent Programme at the fair. The show features installations by Hilmi Johandi, Noor Iskandar and Lennard Ong. Until Sept 23 at ION Art Gallery. Free admission.

MASTERPIECE IN MOTION. Singapore Dance Theatre’s annual triple-bill features the company premiere of Val Caniparoli’s Swipe, Nils Christe’s Fearful Symmetries and Natalie Weir’s 4Seasons. Sept 13, 8pm, University Cultural Centre Hall, NUS. Tickets at S$30 to S$70 from SISTIC.

POTTED POTTER - THE UNAUTHORIZED HARRY EXPERIENCE. Condensing all seven Harry Potter books into 70 minutes, this show features all your favourite characters. NOTES ON PERFORMANCE. An exhibition presenting objects, documentation and relics relating to performance art in Singapore or by Singapore artists. Contributing artists include Lina Adams, Chua Chye Teck, Jeremy Hiah, Amanda Heng, Koh Nguang How, Sean Lee, Lee Wen, Elizabeth Lim, Loo Zihan, Angie Seah, and Jason Wee. INSPIRED BY LIGHT — A TRAVELLER’S JOURNAL A selection of new paintings by watercolour artist Dr Winston Oh. Proceeds of sales of works will go towards supporting the Faculty of Fine Arts programmes. TIME AND HISTORY: DRAWINGS REVOLVING AROUND TIME. Vertical Submarine’s Joshua Yang’s latest solo show revisits the idea of drawing lines as a measure or experience of time, interpreting the nine concepts of time in philosopher Giorgio Agamben’s Time And History. CAVALIA. Dubbed as an “equestrian ballet” and the creation of Normand Latourelle (co-founder of Cirque Du Soleil), Cavalia is a multi-media, multi-disciplinary show, dedicated to showcasing equine-human relationships. THEATRICAL FIELDS. The latest exhibition at the CCA looks at artistic practices that use theatricality in performance, film and video. It coincides with the ongoing Singapore International Festival Of Arts and will feature major video installations by Judith Barry, Stan Douglas, Joan Jonas, Isaac Julien and Constanze Ruhm. THEY LAY THEIR HEADS ON A SOFT PLACE. This solo show by Indonesian artist Ivan Sagita — one of the artists associated with the Jogja surrealism movement of the `80s — features a new body of work comprising painting, photography and sculpture. THE ART OF LINE: CONTEMPORARY CHINESE INK AND BRUSH. A group show that looks at the idea of lines in the Chinese art form. Includes works by six Chinese contemporary artists: Lan Zhenghui, Qiu Deshu, Qin Yufen, Qiu Deshu, Wang Dongling, Wang Tiande, and Zhang Wei.
