New S’pore arts and heritage scholars

SINGAPORE — The National Arts Council (NAC) and National Heritage Board (NHB) gave out scholarships to 22 individuals today (July 21). Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong was on hand to present these.

SINGAPORE — The National Arts Council (NAC) and National Heritage Board (NHB) gave out scholarships to 22 individuals today (July 21). Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong was on hand to present these.

The scholarships include undergraduate and postgraduate studies, from curatorial studies to technical theatre and arts/museum/heritage management to visual and the performing arts. There are 17 recipients of arts scholarships from the NAC, which will invest around S$1.7m, while the NHB will invest S$0.6m for five heritage scholarships.

Among the recipients of postgraduate arts scholarships are Amanda Lee Koe, author of Ministry Of Moral Panic; Ho Rui An, curator/artist/writer who recently facilitated the 89plus programme under the Singapore International Festival Of Arts’ The OPEN event; Joel Nah, musical director for productions by the likes of Singapore Repertory Theatre and W!ld Rice; and Joleen Loh, curator and TODAY arts contributor.

Among the recipients of postgraduate heritage scholarships are former newspaper reporter Kezia Toh and Bernard Tan, who conceptualised NHB’s retail arm Museum Label.

The other recipients of NAC scholarships are: Bevin Ng Jie Wei, Chee Shuwei Tricia, Cheung Yoke Yee Stella, Chua Jon Lin, Goh Jiayin, Ho Ye Lin Melissa, Ng Chung Kit Mark, Nah Jie Ying, Reuben Shaun Raman, Seet Yun Teng and Zunnur Zhafirah Binte Sazali (undergraduate); and Lee Sze-Chin and Wong De Li Dedric (postgraduate).

The other NHB scholarship recipients are: Eng Kai Lin Rachel and Tan Wen-Yi Alexandra (undergraduate) and Ong Chiew Yen (postgraduate).
