State of the Arts: April 25 to May 2

SINGAPORE — The National Heritage Board’s annual Patron Of Heritage Awards was held, honouring 69 individuals or groups who donated a total of more than S$8.5 million (in cash or kind) to Singapore’s heritage efforts last year. Film and photography centre Objectifs was also in the giving mood — it kicked off its Lovin’ Local Film Fund, where it gives away free tickets for people to watch Singapore films. Meanwhile, television celebrities popped up in the arts. It was announced that Andie Chen makes his musical debut in the latest staging of the Mandarin musical December Rains by Toy Factory, performing alongside Chriz Tong and Sugie Phua. The National Gallery Singapore and Channel NewsAsia documentary drama The Worlds Of Georgette Chen also debuted, featuring Rui En. On the design front, Nanyang Technological University student Duane Lye’s Obvi8 storage solution was the winning design at the second IKEA Singapore’s Young Designer Award. MAYO MARTIN
