State of the Arts: Aug 1 to 8

SINGAPORE — In the week leading up to tomorrow’s big day, more SG50-related events were rolled out, as museums, cultural institutions and galleries launched events and opened their doors for free, particularly over the Jubilee weekend. At least one venue had a temporary makeover: The Esplanade has transformed into an “estate” and its theatre stage has turned into a 1960s-style Singaporean apartment for a lucky staycation winner. Among the exhibits, you have the Asian Civilisations Museum’s showcase of 50 objects from a time capsule unearthed last December. The second part of the 100+50 music fest at Bedok Reservoir continues, while it was also announced that the popular 7 Letters film anthology will be receiving a one-week theatrical release this month. This year’s edition of the Singapore International Festival Of Arts kicked off, with Kumar entertaining heartlanders, and a musical inspired by Singapore’s pioneer Nanyang artists. Finally, DesignSingapore Council has announced the six recipients of its design scholarships. MAYO MARTIN
