SINGAPORE — Chalk one up for the comic book scene after Ten Sticks And One Rice bagged a bronze at Japan’s annual International Manga Award. The graphic novel by Oh Yong Hwee and Koh Hong Teng is published by Epigram Books. Meanwhile, things were also busy in the film side: Boo Junfeng said he’s set to shoot his second feature, Apprentice, in September with some international backing; Cathay Asian Films announced a new Singapore film called Our Sister Mambo. Written by Michael Chiang, the film will feature the likes of Siti Khalijah Zainal, Judee Tan, Michelle Chong, among others, and be directed by Taiwan-based Malaysian Ho Wi Ding. Meanwhile, screenings of nominated films from this year’s Singapore Short Film Awards also kicked off at The Substation. MAYO MARTIN
