State of the Arts: July 26 to Aug 2

SINGAPORE — There has been a lot of activity at Singapore’s museums, with the Singapore Art Museum and Asian Civilisations Museum opening their respective new shows and the National Museum of Singapore announcing the closure of its galleries from Aug 11 as part of a major revamp. The winners of the inaugural Singapore Heritage Short Film Competition were announced. The Singapore Writers Festival’s Utter 2014 screenings (of short films based on local literary works) kicked off. More news on the literary front: Poet Cyril Wong was part of the Singers Vocal Ensemble group from Singapore that bagged top prize for the Renaissance and Baroque section of the 30th Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Context in Japan (and second best choir overall), and there were a few books launched, including two books about poetry: Fear No Poetry! and Local Anaesthetic.
