State of the Arts: June 20 to 27

SINGAPORE — The Singapore International Festival of Arts’ pre-festival The OPEN continues as another festival, Esplanade’s indie music event Baybeats, rolled in. Meanwhile, W!ld Rice’s Singapore-Malaysia production Another Country opened after a successful run in Kuala Lumpur and Toy Factory presented its tribute to Singapore Mandarin theatre in a play titled Upstage. Over in London, Singapore Tourism Board’s travelling arts showcase Singapore: Inside Out also kicked off. Back at home, UOB bank announced the start of its search for this year’s edition of its Painting Of The Year competition, The Singapore Drama Educators Association held its theatre arts conference, while the graphic novel The Art Of Charlie Chan Hock Chye continued to sell like hotcakes, with its second print run of 1,500 copies selling out and publisher Epigram Books reprinting 3,000 more.
