SINGAPORE — Coming on the heels of the Singapore Biennale was the launch of another big event — the 10-day Singapore Writers Festival kicked off with the theme Utopia/Dystopia. The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) also officially launched its S$200-million Cultural Matching Fund, which matches dollar-for-dollar private cash donations to arts and heritage groups. However, the MCCY also released its 2013 Cultural Statistics report revealing a drop in ticketed attendances for performing arts events, even as the number of arts activities continued to grow.
