Here is your chance to experience National Gallery Singapore in a whole new way. We tell you what to zoom in on.

Here is your chance to experience National Gallery Singapore in a whole new way. We tell you what to zoom in on.

FACADE SHOW

Back by popular demand, the highly anticipated Facade Show had a successful display last year during the Gallery’s opening weekend. This time, Australian Spinifex Group’s spectacular projection show transforms the Gallery’s stately facade, turning it into a dazzling light and music extravaganza. From 8pm onwards, the facade of the City Hall building will be covered in luminescent paint, along with objects such as picture frames, paint tube machines and art desks to create magical scenes inspired by the abstract artworks in the Gallery’s collection.

DISCO BALL PIT

This is seriously awesome. Held in the Glass Room, both children and adults get to dive into a sea of balls and relive the joys of childhood. There are even colourful floats, including one that looks like a doughnut. This specially designed ball pit can entertain up to 30 people at a time. Don’t forget to wear your best #OOTD as the ball pit makes for a cool wefie with friends and family.

AFFINITY

For more glow-in-the-dark fun, head over to the City Hall Chamber where Tash Tan and Richard Wong, two Singapore-born artists based in Australia, have created a colourful interactive sculpture that responds to your touch. Once you handle the interconnected orbs, they emanate a visual spectrum of lights throughout the room, creating a psychedelic experience that can be shared with friends and family. Also great for another Instagram-worthy moment.

ART AND DESIGN MARKET

Do not forget to check out this market at the Supreme Court Terrace, running on both weekends from 10am to 5pm, giving you the luxury of dropping by anytime during the day. You get to browse through and buy one-of-a-kind pieces by local artists, designers and craftmakers at this creative marketplace. Supporting local creatives while buying stuff great as Christmas gifts — what more could you ask for?

LATE-NIGHT GUIDED TOURS

How about a night at the museum? There will be free guided tours through the museum exhibitions after hours, and if you are worried this will be one of those long-winded tours, fear not. By exploring five highlights during each tour, visitors will get to witness must-see works at the DBS Singapore Gallery, unconventional artworks not to be missed, as well as little-known spots in the Gallery, to name a few.

MOVIE IN THE CIVIC DISTRICT

If you are tired of walking among the crowds, film-maker Royston Tan has a solution for you. His film, Homecoming, will be screened outdoors at the Padang from 9pm onwards on Saturday night. Bring along your mat and enjoy a poignant and heartfelt glimpse into the lives of eight past and present residents of Pulau Ubin. You can even arrive early to soak in the sight of the Civic District at sunset, and feast on delicious food and drinks from the pop-up stalls along St Andrew’s Road.

MUSIC PERFORMANCES ALL NIGHT

Nearby, at the Padang atrium, the party goes on till 2.30am with an exciting line-up of live music performances by crowd favourite Nathan Hartono and other local talents such as Charlie Lim, Bloco Singapura, Budak Pantai and the cast from the musical, Crescendo.
