Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu: Birth of daughter “incredible” and “surreal”

SINGAPORE – New celebrity parents Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu finally broke their silence on their daughter’s arrival today through hand-written notes issued through their managers.

Their baby girl was born on Aug 7 at Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

In his note, Qi said he was very grateful to have been able to be at his wife’s side during the delivery. “I proudly witnessed Joanne smiling through the journey and welcoming our daughter naturally. As her husband, I respect her, felt her pain and am moved,” he said. He added that seeing and holding his new daughter was “incredible” and “indescribable”.

Peh’s note is reproduced here:

“After 10 months of being in my womb, our daughter finally decided to make her grand entrance on the 7th August (sic). I was in labour for 16 hours without pain relief and by the time she was delivered naturally, I was too exhausted to respond to the congratulatory messages from those who seemed to have gotten wind of the news before we could take a breather. Nonetheless (sic), I am recovering well and baby is healthy.

“Throughout my pregnancy, I have received a lot of love and support from family, friends and also strangers who have shown extra care and consideration. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you.

“I am grateful that my husband and a good friend was (sic) by my side, cheering me on, together with the nurses and my gynaecologist at Mount Elizabeth. It is an experience I will never forget.

“Holding my baby girl for the first time is so comforting yet so surreal, and as both Qi and I take on our new roles as first time parents, we seek the understanding of our media friends and partners to be patient with us.

“Thank you once again for sharing our joy in welcoming our first born and we wish Singapore a very happy 50th birthday!”
