SINGAPORE — Actress Rebecca Lim received an Asian Star Award at the Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA), which took place last night (Sept 8) in Seoul, Korea.

She is the first Singaporean to receive this accolade, a people’s choice award that recognises artistes popular with the Korean audience.

Other recipients of the 2016 Asian Star Award were Hong Kong’s Anthony Wong, Japan’s Mina Fujii, Taiwan’s Jasper Liu, the Philippines’ Dennis Trillo and Vietnam’s Nha Phuong Tran.

The Seoul International Drama Awards is an annual ceremony that has recognised excellence in television drama production since 2006. The jury had viewed clips of Lim's performance in Mediacorp Channel 8 drama The Journey: Our Homeland.

“I feel immensely blessed,” said Lim, who will be travelling back to Singapore today. “Out of all the talents we have here in Singapore, I was picked by Seoul International Drama Awards to attend this prestigious ceremony, and was even awarded the Asia Star Prize alongside Anthony Wong, an actor whom I’ve admired for a very long time. It is a huge honour, and I am grateful for this experience – to be able to be in the presence of so many talented people from all over the world.”

She added: “This only pushes me to want to be better, and I’ll make sure that I’ll never rest on my laurels or be complacent. I will be grateful, yes, but complacent — never. I’m thankful to everyone in Singapore for believing in me and giving me opportunities that have helped me grow to be able to get noticed by the juries in the SDA.”

In other news, Lim also snagged a photo at the event with Korean actor Song Joong Ki of Descendants Of The Sun fame and posted it to Instagram, prompting comments from her fellow artistes such as Zoe Tay, who wrote: “OMG!” and Romeo Tan, who wrote: “You win!”
