Sizing up sumo wrestlers

SINGAPORE — It was a big day for those who turned up at Courts Megastore over the weekend, when the household retailer of electrical, IT and furniture products welcomed five professional sumo wrestlers — including Akebono Taro, the first non-Japanese-born sumo wrestler to reach Yokozuna, the highest rank in Sumo wrestling — to its premises.

SINGAPORE — It was a big day for those who turned up at Courts Megastore over the weekend, when the household retailer of electrical, IT and furniture products welcomed five professional sumo wrestlers — including Akebono Taro, the first non-Japanese-born sumo wrestler to reach Yokozuna, the highest rank in Sumo wrestling — to its premises.

The sumo wrestlers met Courts customers and played games with the children, who were also invited to test their strength by trying to push over the sumos. This appearance serves as a prelude to the 8 Days Eat cultural and culinary extravaganza next year, Super Sumo Singapore, which marries the spectator sport of sumo wrestling broadcast live — a first in Singapore — with our love of gastronomy.
