SINGAPORE — Actress Yvonne Lim has given birth to her second child — a daughter named Alexa — in Taipei this afternoon.

Lim and her Taiwanese husband Alex Tien also have a son named AJ, who recently turned two in Dec last year. Despite having gone through the process before, Lim told TODAY that delivery this time round was equally, if not more, challenging.

Lim had delivered her baby via c-section in Musoon clinic — the same place Taiwanese singer Jay Chou and model wife Hannah Quinlivan had delivered their baby girl.

Due to strict rules and regulations at the clinic, Tien was not allowed to accompany her into the delivery room, which affected her so much that she cried from the nerves, shared Lim in a phone interview with TODAY. The 40-year-old had just returned from the ward and was feeling quite weak because she was under medication, she said.

“It’s a bit different because in Singapore when I delivered AJ, Alex was there,” Lim explained. His support made her less nervous and without him there this time round, it was harder for her to keep up a brave front. “I was so nervous I don’t even know what time I started delivering,” she added.

It did not help that she was surrounded by other mums. “You can hear babies delivered at the same time, and they are crying too,” she said.

It wasn’t easy for Tien being away from his wife as well. During her delivery, he could barely sit still and kept walking around, he told TODAY. “I was worried because I couldn’t be there to support her. I know she’s scared of...surgery and needles.”

To make matters worse, her father and younger siblings could not be there with her when she checked into the clinic last night because her younger sister had recently given birth as well. Luckily for Lim, she has her good friends, fellow actresses Hong Huifang and Zoe Tay, to count on.

After getting news of her delivery, Hong applied leave and flew to Taiwan from Singapore to give Lim support the night before. Hong visited her this morning again. As for Tay, she was on a holiday in Taiwan and decided to detour for a visit this morning, just before Lim delivered. The two continued to stay by her side after she delivered.

“They know that I’m really nervous. I am really scared and so they came to give me support and try to get my mind off my nervousness. The two ah jies are really sweet,” Lim said.

Baby Alexa currently weighs 3.4kg and measures 51cm — 2cm longer than her brother, AJ — in length. She will remain as a Taiwanese citizen for now, but Lim is determined for her to become a Singapore Citizen eventually.

For the next step, instead of returning to Singapore, Lim will move to a confinement centre there, which was recommended to Tien by Taiwanese host Patty Hou. “Maybe I will be here (at the clinic) for three days. Then on the fourth day, if everything is smooth and the doctor allows me, I will transfer to the confinement centre.”

While the day has been trying for the couple, Tien and Lim say they are delighted that things went well. “I feel very happy because...mother and baby are both healthy,” said Tien.
