SINGAPORE — Zoe Tay and Judee Tan have lent their support to a campaign to raise funds for AWARE’s Sexual Assault Care Centre (SACC). The actresses each appear in two online videos, the first of a series to be subsequently released.

AWARE’s campaign, running from now until Oct 10, aims to raise S$30,000 through crowdfunding for the SACC, a service launched in May to support women who face sexual assault. The SACC has a drop-in centre and helpline, and offers counselling and free legal advice.

In Tay’s video, she says: “Sexual assault can happen to anyone. But no one should have to suffer in silence.” She told TODAY: “I hope doing this can help the victims.”

As for Tan, her involvement in the project is motivated by personal experience. “Ten years ago, I had my brush with physical and sexual abuse. I’m part of this project to see how I can help,” she said, adding: “The trauma experienced by victims is made more complex and difficult because perpetrators are usually people they know. They prey on the fact that you know them. So for anyone out there who is unsure about her experiences, call SACC to ask. Don’t keep it to yourself.”
