Indonesian artist clinches UOB South-east Asian Painting of the Year

SINGAPORE — Indonesia’s Antonius Subyanto has won the UOB South-east Asian Painting of the Year with his work, Old Stock, Fresh Menu.

SINGAPORE — Indonesia’s Antonius Subyanto has won the UOB South-east Asian Painting of the Year with his work, Old Stock, Fresh Menu.

Now in its 33rd year, the UOB Painting of the Year competition is open to established artists from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. There is also a category for emerging artists.

Mr Subyanto walked away with a US$25,000 (S$32,534) cash prize for winning in his country’s category, and an additional US$10,000 for his win in the overall South-east Asian category.

Singapore-based Korean artist Om Mee Ai took home the UOB Painting of the Year for Singapore. She also received a US$25,000 cash prize. Her 100cm by 100cm oil on canvas was entitled N-PIN56L and is said to be a reflection of a starry night sky.
