John Legend sells Hollywood Hills house

LOS ANGELES — SELLERS: John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

LOS ANGELES — SELLERS: John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

LOCATION: Los Angeles, California

PRICE: US$2,000,000 (S$2,650,000)

SIZE: 1,998 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms

Singer-songwriter John Legend and model Chrissy Teigen — she was the cover girl on the always highly sexed-up 2014 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue — sold their Hollywood Hills house for exactly US$2 million, the LA Times first reported.

The nine-time Grammy winner purchased the 1961 contemporary house in 2007 for US$1.512 million and had the place worked over by architect Don Stewart of Desiderata Design in a vaguely modern manner with basalt stone floors, walls of glass, vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams, etched teak cabinetry and insulated rain gutters to reduces the sound of water in them.

The 1,998-square-foot residence, which appeared in the March 2013 issue of Architectural Digest — and on Oprah’s Next Chapter, whatever that is — and was first listed in mid-October at US$1.995 million, has three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, as per listing details, plus an open-concept main living space that spills out to a large terrace with an over-the treetops canyon view.

One of the bedrooms was did up by Legend as what marketing materials describe as a “state-of-the-art recording studio”, and there’s a glass-roofed terrace off the master bedroom outfitted with an outdoor bathtub carved from what appears to be a solid block of stone. The terrace off the main living area steps down to a second terrace lounge and other outdoor spaces include a wicker basket chair hanging from a tree and a semi-sunken circular hot tub set into a thin grove of bamboo and eucalyptus trees.

If we’re being honest — and we always are — this property gossip would confess that we don’t know if the couple have identified or purchased another home in Los Angeles. Our research does indicate, however, that he/they continue to own a low-floor loft in the heart of New York City’s tourist and shopper-packed SoHo ‘hood that was purchased in August 2012 for US$2,494,700.
