SINGAPORE — After months of mystery, Star Wars fans today (May 29) finally found out who motion capture king Andy Serkis will be playing in the next instalment of the film series.

Serkis will be playing a character named Supreme Leader Snoke, the official Stars War website (www.starwars.com) revealed this morning. No other details have been revealed about the character, but many speculate that he will portray a villain.

Serkis’ character will be fleshed out entirely using motion capture. Along with his name, the official Star Wars website today also put up a photograph, shot by Annie Leibovitz, of Serkis in his motion capture suit.

Serkis confirmed back last November that he was the mysterious voice behind one scene-catching line in the movie’s first teaser trailer: “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side and the light.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is due for release on Dec 18 this year.
