Are Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult really coming to Singapore?

SINGAPORE — Yes, we can already hear the collective screams of Twilight and X-Men fans all across our little red dot. Last Monday, we wrote that “Singapore is fast becoming Hollywood’s latest shooting destination”, what with Zachary Quinto and Rupert Friend on our island right now, shooting their latest film Agent 47 at locales such Gardens By The Bay, Chinatown, Robinson Road, Infinite Studios and Changi Airport. Now, with K-Stew and Nick-H reportedly Singapore-bound, it looks like truer words have never been, erm, written.

According to film trade magazine Screen Daily, Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult will be in Japan and Singapore in August to film director Drake Doremus’ futuristic love story, based on George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel, 1984, about rebellion in a repressed futuristic society.

Hoult, who we will soon see reprise Beast in the highly anticipated X-Men: Days Of Future Past, recently wrapped George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road and the indie thriller Dark Places. He was all over our silver screens last year headlining Warm Bodies and Jack The Giant Slayer.

Doremus, who best known for his sensitivity in tackling complicated relationships in films Like Crazy and Breathe In revealed in an AP interview earlier this year that Jennifer Lawrence also read the script.

The Oscar winner, who is Hoult’s rumoured real-life girlfriend, appeared in Doremus’ 2011’s Like Crazy.

“Jen and I worked together before and she was fantastic,” the director said in the AP interview. “It’s exciting to talk about the character with different people, but it became evident in my head that Nick and Kristen would have great chemistry.”

According to the same AP interview, Stewart was “terrified” to take on the project.

“I can’t believe I agreed to do it,” the Twilight actress said about her upcoming role in the sci-fi drama. “I’m terrified of it. Though it’s a movie with a really basic concept, it’s overtly ambitious. I trust Drake’s process and I know we will do something really natural and real,” the 24 year old continued. “But I told Drake, ‘Don’t expect that I am going to be able to do this. It’s too hard.’ But he wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. I’ve given directors disclaimers before, but never this much.”

Could K-Stew be scared of stepping into what could have been J-Law’s shoes, right alongside Nick-H? Perhaps we Singaporeans could give her a hearty welcome to calm her down.

TODAY understands that the film is not with any Singapore distributor at the moment, but all might change after the 2014 Cannes Film Market.
