Arts centre Objectifs offers free movie tickets in new initiative to help S’pore films

SINGAPORE — The box office struggles of local independent films holding their own against Hollywood films is an all-too-familiar scenario.

Visual arts centre Objectifs is doing its bit to stand up for the commercial underdogs with a new initiative in support of Singapore films called the Objectifs Lovin’ Local Film Fund.

It is setting aside funds to purchase 50 tickets for every independent local film made over the next year and these will be given away to interested film-goers. Their only request? That you help spread the word about the films after watching them, whether by word-of-mouth or by sharing your thoughts on the film on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Not only is the Lovin’ Local Film Fund initiative aimed at encouraging more Singaporeans to watch Singapore-made films, it also hopes to encourage corporate donors or groups to organise bigger local film screenings. There is also an opportunity for charity organisations to receive free tickets. 

“This is really about contributing in our own small way and we hope to use this initiative to shine the light on indie films that could benefit from any extra help or push,” Objectifs’ Artistic Director  Wahyuni Hadi told TODAY. 

This week’s highlighted film is Ken Kwek’s Unlucky Plaza and the sold-out screening will be held tomorrow, April 29, 7pm at Shaw Lido.

The next film lined up will be Han Yew Kwang’s Rubbers.
