Cathay does the Mambo round the region

SINGAPORE — Mambo Kings, step aside. It’s time for Mambo Queen as Cathay Organisation’s 80th anniversary commemorative feature film Our Sister Mambo starts production in August.

A romantic comedy about four sisters, the film is inspired by iconic Cathay classic films such as 1957’s Our Sister Hedy and 1961’s The Greatest Civil War On Earth. It stars regional talents hailing from Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Our Sister Mambo is directed by award-winning Malaysian-Taiwanese film-maker Ho Wi Ding with Singaporean playwright Michael Chiang as scriptwriter and Cathay Organisation’s Executive Director Choo Meileen as producer. It stars Singapore’s Moses Lim as patriarch Mr Wong, Michelle Chong as the titular Mambo Wong and Siti Khalijah Zainal as Mambo’s best friend.

The production crew honour roll includes Hong Kong-based cinematographer Ho Yoke Weng, Malaysian art director Soon Yong Chow and music director Hardesh Singh, and Singaporean stylist Frederick Lee.

We will also be making an announcement soon to showcase the full supporting cast of Our Sister Mambo with some surprise cameo roles. All the pieces in Our Sister Mambo have fallen in place nicely.”

Our Sister Mambo will be released in July 2015.
