LONDON — Avengers: Age Of Ultron is yet to complete its run at the cinemas, but retailers are already whetting fans’ appetites by promising an alternate ending and extended version of the film when the DVD and Blu-Ray versions are released later this year.

In an email Amazon.co.uk sent to its customers on Friday, the online retailer said an extended version of the film, which stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlet Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo in an ensemble superhero plot, comes complete with a different ending. The email read: “Avengers: Age Of Ultron is available to pre-order on DVD and Blu-Ray, including an extended version and alternate ending.”

Age Of Ultron director Joss Whedon admitted on website Vulture that his original cut was three-and-a-half-hours long. It was cut down to 140 minutes, and at the time, Whedon and the film’s producer Kevin Feige agreed that the shorter version was improved.

However, Whedon did tell Vulture: “There’s one or two things that I’m unhappy about not having in there, but they’re small.”

Potentially these will be the scenes included in the longer, DVD-only version. As for the alternate ending, speculation is already mounting as to what could be involved — especially among those who have seen the film. Prior to its release, there was some thought that Avengers: Age Of Ultron would see the Hulk being sent into space.

Cast members Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who plays Quicksilver) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) have spoken about some of their deleted scenes, involving capes on fire and aliens, which may be getting a new lease of life with the DVD and Blu-Ray release, even though dates haven’t been confirmed as yet.
