LOS ANGELES — Marvel Studios and Disney have revealed a better look at the characters and the destruction that will take place in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, set for release May 1.

The spot debuted during the College Football National Championship game on ESPN.

In the film, written and directed by Joss Whedon, Tony Stark must reunite his Iron Man with Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye to fend off the villainous robot Ultron, who was created as part of a peacekeeping program but decided to attack his creators and eradicate humans from the Earth.

The footage in the new TV spot provides a closer look at the newest characters joining the franchise, the twins Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, and more of the battle between Iron Man and the Hulk. VARIETY.COM/REUTERS
