SINGAPORE – A local programme, Spelling Armadillo, has picked up a nod for the 4th International Emmy Kids Awards, it was announced today (Oct 7)

Spelling Armadillo is a telemovie that tells of a heartwarming story about a boy, Tom, who believes that by being inconspicuous, he will be able to stay out of trouble. But things don’t always go according to plan and he is challenged to rediscover his self-confidence and find the courage in pursuit of one’s dreams.

This is the first South-east Asian production to be nominated for this awards and will be in the Kids: TV Movie/Mini-Series category.

A collaborative effort between the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), MediaCorp and Oak3 Films, the telemovie was first broadcast in Singapore on MediaCorp’s Channel 5 earlier this year.

Bernard Lim, head of the Family Segment at MediaCorp said: “Spelling Armadillo is an example of the quality content we work hard to create (and) to inspire imagination while reflecting the lives of our audience.”

Chief executive of Oak3 Films, Zaihirat Banu Codelli, said this nomination marks “a milestone for Oak3 Films and Singapore”.

MDA’s assistant chief executive officer (Industry Group), Angeline Poh added that this nomination is “a great endorsement of the quality of the Singapore-made show”.

“We hope that this achievement will inspire more of our producers to strive to create engaging content that resonates with their audiences and stand out in the highly competitive global market,” she added.

A sequel to Spelling Armadillo is currently being filmed in Singapore and is slated for release in the first quarter of 2016.

The awards ceremony will take place on April 5 next year at MIPTV in Cannes.
