Music guide: Nov 22 to 30

SKECHERS SUNDOWN FESTIVAL 2014. This music festival brings together Asian singing sensations all on the same stage. Artistes include Singapore’s Olivia Ong, Hong Kong’s Kate Tsui, Indonesia’s SOS, Korea’s Cross Gene, Bollywood performer Kanika Kapoor and Malaysia’s Shila Amzah. BOLLYWOOD NIGHT. The Esplanade Concourse turns into one big Bollywood bash, where you can dance to some of the biggest hits. Nov 22, 9pm, Esplanade Concourse. Free.

 

TAN CHIN TUAN CENTENNIAL CONCERT: MAKE MUSIC. CELEBRATE LIFE. The Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir and conductor Wong Lai Foon offer a choral music featuring uplifting melodies such as Festival Sanctus, The Prayer and Climb Ev’ry Mountain. Nov, 22 2pm and 4pm, Victoria Concert Hall. Free.

 

WHITE NOISE QUARTET. White Noise is a project by Singaporean singer songwriter Juliet Pang and Australian pianist Didi Mudigdo. Since their inception in 2012, they have released an EP and performed at events such as the Singapore Arts Festival. Nov 22, Blu Jaz Cafe. Free entry (“with a smile”)

 

HOUSE OF TIMBRE. The House of Timbre at The Arts House features three live music and dining venues and a dedicated training and practice space for budding and emerging musicians called, the Timbre Rehearsal Space. Expect acoustic classic rock and Top 40 hits at Timbre @ The Arts House; blues, funk and soul at Barber Shop; and jazz at the Restaurant Olivia Cassivelaun Fancourt (OCF). Nov 22 and Nov 27 to 29, 7pm till late, House of Timbre, 1 Old Parliament Lane.

 

NYPCO PRESENTS BILLBOARD ROCKX! The Nanyang Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra (NYPCO) will be perform modern melodies from the likes of One Direction, Katy Perry and Maroon 5 using traditional instruments. Nov 23, 5pm, Esplanade Concert Hall. Tickets at S$15 from SISTIC.

 

JAZZ FUSION. The AWay Project presents a showcase of Indian music and jazz, rock and blues. Nov 23, various times, starting 4.15pm; Esplanade Concourse. Free.

 

BOLLYWOOD LOVE SONGS UNPLUGGED. The trio who call themselves Soul&Dhol perform a series of Bollywood hits, acoustic-style. Nov 24, 7.15pm and 8.15pm, Esplanade Concourse. Free.

 

SINGAPORE ORIGINALS. With years of performance experience under his belt, Deon’s sound has matured into an eclectic mix of alternative-folk-rock-pop. Nov 26, 7.30pm, Timbre @ The Substation. Free, but first drink charge applies.

 

MR BIG. The guys who brought you hits such as To Be With You and Ain’t Seen Love Like That are back again for what promises to be another rollicking gig. Nov 26, 8pm, Kallang Theatre. Tickets from S$98 to S$178 from SISTIC.

 

THE VOX SERIES. Singer Dawn Ho and host Mario Serio lead the proceedings in this night of jazz. Nov 27, 9pm, Sing Jazz Club, The Sultan Hotel, 101 Jalan Sultan. Tickets at S$10 (S$15 at the door). For reservations call 8139 9059.

 

MARTIN TAYLOR AND ALISON BURNS. One bears the name of two famous guitar brands and the other is one of the smoothest jazz singers we know. Together, they are performing here for the first time. Nov 28, 8pm, Esplanade Recital Studio. Tickets at S$68 (S$88 at the door) from SISTIC.

 

ASIA PACIFIC JUNIOR ORIGINAL CONCERT. This concert features young musicians (15 years old and below) from the Yamaha Music Schools across the Asia-Pacific region, including countries such as Australia, China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Taiwan, Thailand and of course, Singapore. They will perform their own compositions. (Hence the concert name.) Nov 29, 4.30pm, University Cultural Centre, NUS. Tickets at S$25 and S$35 from SISTIC.

 

THE TAMARIND SOUND PROJECT. Comprising Raghavendran, Aditi Gopinathan, Sai Akileshwar and Yazied Rahman, this music collective explores “new horizons of Indian classical music”. Nov 29, various times, Esplanade Concourse. Free.

 

HOOBASTANK. Fans will probably give you more than one reason to watch the band that gave the world that big hit, The Reason. Percussion band Wicked Aura supports. Nov 30, 8pm, The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel, Sentosa. Tickets at S$98 (S$188 for VIP) from SISTIC.
