SINGAPORE — Korean pop star Se7en and Mighty Mouth’s Sang Chu have been sentenced to 10 days in military prison, after the two were filmed visiting adult massage parlours after performing at a concert hosted by the military.

Website allkpop quoted the Defence Ministry as saying that the two celebrity recruits were being punished for leaving their dorms without permission, and for not wearing their military uniforms. The ministry did not, however, find that they had any intention of participating in prostitution.

Five other celebrity recruits, who are unnamed, have also been sentenced to four days in military jail for carrying their personal cell phones, and one other soldier was given 10 days’ probation for leaving to watch a movie after hours.

The Defence Ministry had announced last week that its controversial “celebrity unit”, which was set up in 1997 to promote the image of the military using entertainers as public relations recruits, will be abolished, following a series of scandals.

The 15 soldiers currently in the unit will be reassigned to other Army units from next month.
