LOS ANGELES — Beyonce has joined forces with J Balvin and Willy Williams for a new version of Mi Gente in support of natural-disaster relief efforts. The singer is donating her proceeds from the song to charities including CEMA, UNICEF and Somos Una Voz for Puerto Rico, Mexico and other affected Caribbean islands.

“I am donating my proceeds from this song to hurricane relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico and the other affected Caribbean islands,” she announced with a flashy series of Instagram posts Thursday night (Sept 28).

The original version, which pairs Colombian singer Balvin with French artist/producer Williams, was originally released in June and ended the 14-week reign of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Despacito atop Spotify’s Global chart.

Balvin, who has been collaborated with recording artists from all genres including Justin Bieber, has millions of followers as does Beyonce with 106 million followers on Instagram alone.

One online Beyonce supporter simply wrote, “Super duper shook. She is queen.” VARIETY.COM/REUTERS
