SINGAPORE — Homegrown bilingual singer-songwriter, Ling Kai, has put another feather in her cap: Her new single, Dumbfounded, has topped the Mandopop charts on iTunes, on the first day of its release.

It’s a bright start for the singer, who signed a new management deal with local company, Cross Ratio Entertainment, which also manages the likes of Tay Kewei and Alfred Sim,

Dumbfounded is taken from her upcoming album that will be released later this year, said a spokesperson for Cross Ratio.

With it’s crunchy guitar and driving beat, the song veers away from the ballads and the melodic pop that she showcased on her previous album, LinK.

Ling Kai’s first break came in 2008 her first English original song Larkin Step scored more than 1 million views on YouTube. She moved to China in 2012, and her first full-length bilingual album LinK was released in 2013.

That year, she won the Best Singer Songwriter award at the 2013 YinYueTai 2nd Annual V Chart Awards, along with Chinese artiste, Li Ronghao.

In 2014, Ling Kai was invited to compete on Chinese reality TV singing show Sing My Song, and became the only female singer-songwriter candidate to make it to the finals.
